Lithuania - the Geographical Centre of Europe

Lithuania is a country located in Central Europe, by the Baltic Sea, and is distinguished for its exceptionally good geopolitical and transit situation because of which it is often referred to as a bridge between Eastern and Western Europe.

After a re-estimation of the boundaries of the continent of Europe in 1989, Jean-George Affholder, a scientist at the Institut Géographique National (French National Geographic Institute) determined that the Geographic Centre of Europe is located at 54°54′N25°19′E. The method used for calculating this point was that of the centre of gravity of the geometrical figure of Europe. Institute have discovered that the geographical centre of Europe is situated just 25 kilometres from Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

You're just 6 kilometres away from the Centre of Europe!

In May 2001 Lithuania was accepted into the World Trade Organization, and in the spring 2004 the country became a member of NATO and the European Union. Membership in these organisations not only ensured safety of Lithuania but also contributed to further stabilization of the country's economy and made it attractive to foreign investors.
